Fun Day 2009

The Juniors Fun Day   was a great success.  35 children attended from 4 praesidia (Craigieburn 13, Deer Park 12, Dandenong 7, Mentone 3).  Ages ranged from 16 to 5 (18 children 5-10yrs and 17 children 11-16yrs).  Following registrations, the day got off to a start with Legion opening prayers (five children each leading a Joyful mystery of the Rosary). This was very devoutly recited. Morning activities included action songs, a relay quiz and poison ball (nothing broken!).  An excellent talk on Spiritual Warfare was given by Br. Gabriel (OATH).  The Catena was recited, followed by lunch (hot dogs, ice-cream, fruit). The afternoon session included some inter-active games interspersed with reflections and finishing with a meditation on the Last Supper (given by seminarian, Aurelio, who will be ordained next year).  Concluding prayers brought the afternoon to a finish at 3pm.
Good participation by all the children.

REPORT FROM OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP JUNIOR PRAESIDIUM ON THE FUN DAY HELD AT MAGNIFICAT HOUSE ON 12 SEPTEMBER 2009

After some groundwork we managed to borrow Fr Michael’s  mini -bus to get to HQ (as the juniors called it) with seven Juniors on board – two had taken ill (would’ve been nine).  A little lecture was given to them before disembarking, about social niceties – just in case.

We arrived on time and registered.  There were about 40 children in attendance ranging from about 6 to 17 years of age.  The day began with the Rosary (the Joyful Mysteries) with a youth selected from various praesidia, to lead the decades.  Thereafter, the fun started with lively games and quizzes which were lead by the Brothers of the Alliance of the Two Hearts – Bro Gabriel and Bro John. Their lovely smiling dispositions were infectious as even the ones who did not feel inclined to participate, found themselves in the middle of all the activity.  Games that come to mind at the time were:

§  Dodge –ball with spiritual add-ons.

§  Quizzes with relay- the youth were divided into four teams with challenges – they found this extremely exhilarating.

§  Action songs – the one of “Papa Joseph” was very entertaining, beautifully illustrating the Faith accompanied by the skilful guitar music rendered by Bro. John.

Before the break we stopped to recite the Catena and said The Grace before meals.

After lunch, Aurelio, a Seminarian, who is to be ordained next year, took over.  He told them inspiring stories of an individual who was not very good at much and attempted many careers had eventually found his niche in life through perseverance.  This too was supported with games and some dramatisation.  Charmingly, it turned out to be his own story – he is happily looking forward to his ordination next year.  May God bless him and the two Brothers- Bro John and Bro Gabriel who really brightened the day.  They really worked hard in preparing and planning captivating activities for the Youth. The occasion was wound up with Concluding Prayers .

In a survey undertaken at our next meeting,  all felt that it had been a very memorable day as apart from all the entertain provided, they also met  and made some lovely friends.  They can’t wait for next year!

Can my ‘Yes’ Make a Difference

To Jesus Through Mary

Mary’s ‘Yes’ at the young age of about 14 changed the world. Consider the changes in your life if you say ‘yes’ to her by working for her. She would not be asking you to take on any thing that would be too difficult for you, only something that is good for you and someone else.

How the Legion can help you.

The Apostles prayed together and went out in pairs to bring the ‘Good News’ to people. In the Legion this is also our way. Each week we reserve a time to pray, go out and do some active work.

This work is a great stepping stone for adult responsibilities by giving you the necessary experience within a caring system in helping others

What Work can be Done.

  • Give out miraculous medals.
  • Encourage a friend to come to Mass.
  • Serving at weekday Mass.
  • Visiting children in hospitals.
  • Organise a Rosary Statue for families to pray together.
  • Make and send Get Well cards for sick children.
  • Read the Lives of Saints.
  • Help with the housework.
  • Make birthday cards for children.
  • Sewing for the missions.
  • Helping with Sacristy work.
  • Plus many more activities as requested by the Parish Priest.

How We Are

Called

This is an invitation for you to inquire about forming a group in your area. An adult from the Legion will guide you. You will meet each week to pray and organise your work.
