Report on the P .P .C in Dromana

23rd Nov -5th Dee 2002

The Parish of Dromana covers an area of about a hundred square km of assorted communities, towns, vineyards and farming land, and a judicious choice had to be made about which area to begin with and which to leave to the local praesidium to visit. The consensus was to visit the most populated area

The core team of Legionaries who undertook this task were: two from Auckland; two from Stanthorpe, Queensland;(all who arrived on t he 21st and stayed till the 6th);two from Adelaide, one from Wangaretta, and one from Bendigo,(all who stayed for a week or so ). They were assisted by Legionaries from Geelong and Preston Curia. They also had the backing of the daily visitors from various Melbourne praesidia and curia.

Their Base was the Don Bosco camp Beach House a very suitable lodgings, two kilometres from the church., where the daily meetings were held and work allocation was made at 9.30 after morning Mass, unless mass was in the evening. Transport was provided by the Local praesidium to the allocated work areas and back for meals. Visiting legionaries helped by driving themselves to their work areas. The parishioners and the parish gladly donated meals or cash to provide an ample sufficiency of good food to accompany Irish humour.

The steep terrain and sloping driveways and steps of McRae stopped a few experienced legionaries. But in the true Legion spirit those who could did their best for Mary and those who couldn't knew they did their best for her too.

The Final Figures were:

Total 5825   Not home 3815     Non Cath. 1518     Catholic 489

The total figure represents about 60%of the population, a big bite from the task left to Fr Janusz and his team; and in those words of one who was away when the legion visited "Thank you for the prayer of St Francis. It is good to see that the Legion is going out to the community."
