Annual Mass 2003

Bishop Prowse celebrated our Annual Mass on the 8th November 2003 at St Mary's Star of the Sea Church in West Melbourne. He was joined by the Spiritual Director of the Senatus Fr Joachim O'Brien OFM and three Spiritual Directors of the Legion. Four of the altar servers were from the Seminary in Carlton.

The Mass was well attended, with a greater number than last year. Legionaries came from as far away as Adelaide, Tasmania, Albury/Wodonga and Sale. A candlelight procession was held. Twenty representatives with a candle for each Council and attached Praesidia under the Senatus. The Procession was led by a Junior Legionary who held nine flowers, each one representing a Council in the Pacific Islands that are under the care of the Senatus. These were placed at the feet of the statue of Our Blessed Mother.

The choir led us into the Mass with the Lourdes Hymn. and with the organ playing with gusto the Procession of flowers, candles, banner, Vexillum, Standard, Servers then Clergy was a moving sight.

In his Homily, Bishop Prowse was delighted with the number of Legionaries attending the Mass and spoke of the direction that the Legion could move in the New Millenium. He accepted our invitation to afternoon tea at Magnificat House where he intermingled with the Legionaries.

It was a day to remember the life of Frank Duff, who with the influence of the Holy Spirit and Our Blessed Mother, started the Legion just over eighty years ago. We remember him well and also the day itself because of the joy experienced together.
