Report on Juniors Fun Day – 13^th September 2008

Twenty seven children aged between 16 and 7 attended this year’s fun day at Magnificat House.

The day was a mixture of prayer, singing, games and activities.  The day started with the Opening Prayers and Rosary which was beautifully led by Sr. Sylvana Bodzay.  This was followed by some action songs and interactive games.  A talk on prayer life was given by Brother Gabriel (OATH) and it was pleasing to see the children listening attentively.  Sister Mary-Joseph from the Mentone praesidium took the senior girls upstairs for a talk.

As the members from Mentone had to leave early, it was decided to take a group shot of everyone before lunch.  Then Brother Jim Stoppa from Mentone presented all the Junior legionaries with a beautiful Miraculous Medal on a blue ribbon which he had made.

The Catena was recited and this was followed by lunch.  Everyone had plenty to eat – as well as pizza, party pies and sausage rolls, one of the grandmothers had made delicious meat balls and patties.  More games followed after lunch and another talk – this time on the Triumph of the Cross and the Sorrowful Mother (the feast days occurring over the next two days).  Once again the children sat attentively, this time Brother Cyprian (OATH) gave the talk.  Next they were asked to form into groups and do an activity which related to the talk.  The children’s creativity was demonstrated as they produced their finished projects and each group leader gave a little explanation of what they had done.

The highlight of the day was the floral tribute and crowning of Our Lady’s statue, in which the children participated most reverently.

The day concluded with the Closing Prayers of the Legion and, yes, a couple more action songs!  Children received a specially made holy card from the Brothers.

Thanks to all those who contributed to making the day a great success – junior and senior legionaries, mums, grandmothers, the OATH Brothers and of course Our Lady!
